Pokémon GO developer Niantic has unleashed a new tool to discourage cheating in its augmented-reality game, this time by shaming them. As revealed in a Reddit post by a Niantic rep, a new update, live today, will add a mark in the inventory of anyone caught using third-party software. "With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that Pokémon GO continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers. Starting today, Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected," Niantic stated. "We are humbled by the excitement for all the new features we announced yesterday. This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience." This isn't the first time Niantic has cracked down on Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go Ice and Fire event, new multiplayer gameplay detailed

Image
Pokémon Go developer Niantic has detailed some of its plans for this summer, including an Ice and Fire-themed event coming next week. The event will take place from next week, on 13th June, feature larger numbers of Fire and Ice-type creatures plus XP bonuses for perfect Pokéball throws and discounted Lucky eggs. Following this, a big game update will add "collaborative group gameplay features that will get you playing in fun new ways". Developer Niantic has yet to say what exactly this means, but we may well hear more at E3 next week. PVP play was recently touted by Niantic as coming to the game, along with - finally - the appearance of Legendary Pokémon. But there's no more news on that today. Finally - and perhaps more of interest to those outside the UK - are a number of real-life events to bring Pokémon Go players together. There's one in Grant Park in Chicago on 22nd July, and events across Europe through the summer at Unibail-Rodamco shopping centre

Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 has been confirmed, releasing in July

Image
Just a few short days ago, Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 was revealed to have been approved by the Australian Classification Board, but now Mojang has stepped forward to confirm that Telltale will be continuing the series. Episode 1, which is titled "Hero in Residence" will launch later this summer on July 11th and continues the story of Jesse. Here's a brief description of the setup via Mojang: As a simple treasure hunt goes wrong, trapping Jesse’s hand in a cursed prismarine gauntlet, we discover that maybe there are other downsides to fame, too - like having a dark and ancient power know your name. A new adventure beckons, sending Jesse on a quest to the darkest depths of the world - and beyond! Joined by a motley band of familiar faces, fortune hunters, sometime enemies and one deeply disobedient llama, there will be tough choices, peril aplenty and no shortage of People Who Will Remember That. As with other Telltale series, your decisions from Season

Pokémon Go will support Apple’s new augmented reality tech

Image
Apple has an advanced augmented reality tool, ARKit, in the works for iOS, and Pokémon Go will be one of several apps to support it. The company showed off a brief demonstration of what that might look like during the opening presentation for this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference. ARKit will use “fast, stable motion tracking,” as well as scale estimation and ambient lighting estimation for a more immersive version of augmented reality. In short: Expect a much more realistic, better-looking style of the technology than what is currently on display in Pokémon Go . Apple didn’t mention how Pokémon Go will work specifically with ARKit, nor when the technology will launch. Other apps expected to use the more complex tech include one from Ikea and one starring Lego Batman. ARKit will also have support for development tools Unity and Unreal Engine. Apple’s current hardware doesn’t yet support the technology, however, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer for a more realistic ve
