Pokemon GO's Anniversary Event Will Let You Capture Ash's Pikachu
Pokémon Go celebrates its first birthday today, but players are getting the biggest gift. An anniversary event runs from today until July 24th, with discounts and a special Pikachu offered up to trainers around the world.
The anniversary event starts at 1 p.m. PT today and will end at 1 p.m. PT on July 24.
An Anniversary Box item will be sold in the game’s store during the event’s duration. As part of the gift set, players will get Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls and a Raid Pass. The whole box will be discounted, so item-heavy trainers will want to pick this up while they have the chance.
For everyone else, a Pikachu wearing Ash Ketchum’s trademark hat will be the biggest prize. Players can start tracking the little guy down today; like other special Pikachu, he’ll keep that Ash cap for good, so it’s a cute addition to anyone’s collection.
After 52 weeks, Pokémon Go is still going strong. It’s nearing a billion downloads worldwide, and Niantic hopes to reinvigorate the fanbase with a big outdoor event later this month. Pokémon Go Fest tickets are sold out, but fans in Chicago may still be able to get in on the action when it kicks off on July 21 in Grant Park.
